Bila Park Marquee

By popular request is on again in 2009

"Way far away, a long time ago, the old folks danced the do-si do…"
It's fun, easy, and something everybody can learn quickly and enjoy. Square & contra dances are a traditional community recreation that bring people together in a simple activity open to everyone. All dances are briefly taught, then led by the caller to the music of a live stringband. This dancing is community oriented, so beginners are able to participate with a minimum of basic instructions, no special clothing required. If you've never done it before and want to experience this type of event firsthand, come along. Bringing a partner is helpful but not necessary, as dancers will change partners throughout the evening.

The 2008 Appaldance exceeded all expectations, we had made provision for perhaps 50 dancers and when 150 enthusiast locals appeared the marquee was filled with eager dancers and an audience. As dancers tired and went outside to cool off in the brisk mountain evening air, their place was quickly taken by other couples. I noticed some of our most reticent dancers on the dance floor with smiles from ear to ear.
A BIG Thank You to Judy Jones who called the dance steps, she had as much fun as the dancers and the My Ty Fine String Band, who along with a few musician helpers certainly made the dance a huge success.

Once again BIGGER MARQUEE in 2009,
means more dance floor and more fun.

This is the FUN time you missed in 2008
